Vappu!

Vappu takes place on the Labour’s Day and it’s a very important festival in Finland.

Today everybody is wearing the typical university student’s white cap. Elderly people also proudly wear their cap, now yellowed with age.
The event of the day is the picnic, which somehow also marks the beginning of the summer activities. Today I had a picnic with some friends of mine, in Seurasaari (http://www.nba.fi/en/seurasaari_openairmuseum), one of Helsinki’s islands.
The food was good and the weather wonderful: I even managed to sunbathe a bit!

Il Vappu è una festa molto sentita in Finlandia che coincide con (o sostituisce) la festa del lavoro.

In questa giornata tutti vanno in giro con un cappello bianco, che è il cappello tipico degli studenti universitari. Anche le persone anziane indossano con orgoglio il loro copricapo, oramai ingiallito dagli anni.
L’evento della giornata è il picnic, che in un certo senso indica pure l’inizio delle attività estive.
Oggi sono stato a fare il picnic con i miei amici a Seurasaari (http://www.nba.fi/en/seurasaari_openairmuseum), una delle isole di Helsinki.
Il cibo era buono e la giornata molto bella: ho anche preso un po’ di sole!!!
