Being a Communicator

Today I attended a training. The title sounds cool: “Interpersonal Communication Skills”.
I chose it because I would like to become a good Communicator, like the famous phone…
This morning I learnt that I should move less my body when I’m talking to somebody, and if he is a Finn I should also keep a safe distance of 1 meter from him.
Then I should wisely mix visual, auditory and kinaesthetic communication, in order to adapt to any possible audience.
Finally, a good communicator is able to use patience and impatience at the same time. But this is too much for me, and now I’m getting really confused…

Oggi ho partecipato ad un corso dal titolo interessante: “Comunicazione interpersonale”.
L’ho scelto perché vorrei davvero diventare un buon comunicatore, come il famoso telefono (freddura di sapore inglese)…
Quest’oggi ho imparato che dovrei muovermi di meno quando parlo, e se si tratta di un finlandese dovrei pure tenere una distanza di sicurezza di un metro.
Poi dovrei saper mescolare sapientemente la comunicazione visiva con quella uditiva e quella cinestetica, in maniera da potermi adattare ad ogni possibile pubblico.
Infine, un buon comunicatore sa usare pazienza ed impazienza allo stesso tempo. Ma questo è troppo per me, e comincio ad essere un po’ confuso…

I' ve not written for a while, but around Easter I was quite busy.
Don't worry: I’m going to bring you up to date on the situation.

Here is what happened during these days:

1) vacation in Italy: I saw the real spring, the one with 20 °C temperature and the trees in bloom.

2) Guadec 2006: I got the confirmation I’ll be able to go to Spain (cool!); now I hope my talk is accepted. Meanwhile I enrolled for the football tournament…

3) here in Helsinki the snow melted, and this morning it was +10 °C!!! (it’s almost summer). A new life is beginning…

E’ un po’ che non scrivo, ma intorno a Pasqua sono stato abbastanza impegnato.
Tranquilli! Ora mi metto subito in pari aggiornando la situazione.
Ecco cosa è successo in questi giorni:

1) vacanza in Italia: ho visto la vera primavera, quella con 20 °C e i fiori sugli alberi

2) Guadec 2006: ho ricevuto la conferma che potrò andare in Spagna (evvai!); ora spero che la mia presentazione venga accettata. Intanto mi sono iscritto al torneo di calcetto…

3) qui ad Helsinki la neve si è sciolta, e stamattina faceva addirittura +10 °C !!! (è quasi estate). Una nuova vita sta per iniziare…

2006 Quality of Living Survey

MERCER Human Resource Consulting has published the results of a survey about the quality of living in more than 350 cities in the world.
Zurich scores highest, while Baghdad ranks lowest.
Helsinki is at position 29, while Milan (51st) is the highest ranking city in Italy.

La società MERCER ha pubblicato i risultati della sua ricerca sulle città con qualità della vita più alta.
Per il 2006 la prima in classifica è risultata Zurigo mentre Bagdad è in ultima posizione.
Helsinki ha raggiunto un buon 29° posto, mentre Milano è la prima delle città italiane, al 51° posto.

One day more of Sodexho, and then I’ll be able to go back to an adequate food standard.
Today it was too much for me: two out of three possible meals were based on potatoes.

It’s a shame I didn’t have the phone with me, because It could have been a good opportunity to take some pictures to post here.
But in any case, as Dirk says, nobody would have believed them.

Meno uno.
Un giorno ancora di Sodexho e poi potrò tornare ad uno standard alimentare degno delle mie origini.
Oggi non ce l’ho fatta: su tre pietanze da scegliere due erano costituite da patate. Peccato che non avevo con me il telefono, perché mi sarebbe piaciuto fare qualche foto da postare su questo blog.
Ma tanto, come dice Dirk, nessuno ci avrebbe creduto.

Le elezioni

Today and tomorrow we have elections in Italy.
This is the first time Italian citizens living abroad can vote.
I also managed to vote, with a bit of trouble, last Thursday.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Finland there are 1062 Italian electors, but only 522 of them voted (49.15%).

Oggi e domani in Italia si vota per rinnovare il Parlamento.
Questa è la prima volta che i cittadini italiani residenti all’estero possono votare.
Anche io ci sono riuscito, con un po’ di fatica, giovedì scorso.
Secondo il Ministero degli Esteri, in Finlandia abbiamo 1062 elettori; di questi soltanto 522 hanno votato (49.15%).

Tommaso

Today many people were in Parma for the last goodbye to Tommaso, a two-years-old child who was kidnapped and then killed with pitiless cruelty.
His story deeply shook the public opinion, and many persons today are wondering whether such a horrible crime may deserve death penalty.
I wonder if persons able to do such an inhuman action would really stop in front of the prospect of being punished with death; haven’t they maybe already arrived beyond any human capability of experiencing any feelings?
Does something or someone exist, who could avenge Tommaso’s death?
I think at the very end it is him himself who eventually defeats a so big evil, with the love and tenderness the image of his face is stirring in millions of people, together with the hope, or the certainty, that his life has not ended here.


Oggi tante persone erano a Parma per l’ultimo saluto a Tommaso, un bambino di nemmeno due anni rapito ed ucciso con spietata crudeltà.
La sua vicenda ha fortemente scosso l’opinione pubblica, ed oggi molti si chiedono se di fronte a tanto orrore non sia lecito prevedere la pena capitale.
Mi chiedo se persone in grado di compiere un crimine tanto spietato potrebbero davvero fermarsi di fronte alla prospettiva di esser puniti con la morte, o se forse tali individui non siano già giunti al di là di ogni umana capacità di provare alcun sentimento.
Esiste qualcosa o qualcuno che potrebbe vendicare la morte di Tommaso? Forse è proprio lui alla fine a sconfiggere tanto male, con l’amore e la tenerezza che l’immagine del suo volto sta suscitando a milioni di persone, unito alla speranza, o la certezza, che la sua vita non è finita qui.

Beh, mi sembra una buona notizia. No?
