Saint Petersburg

Just back from a long weekend in St. Petersburg: it was wonderful.

The city (at least the historical centre) really surprised me in terms of cultural and artistic heritage. I could write a long list of the things I liked, but above all those I would mention the Ermitage museum, with its huge collection of masterpieces, the Catherine’s Palace, with the marvellous Amber Room, and the Russian dinner, with the enjoyable performances of some local people.

Ah, I was almost forgetting it: food. It was not really Mediterranean, but it was definitely better than the average quality in Finnish restaurants, and considerably cheaper.

A suggestion for everybody: go there!

Appena tornato da un weekend lungo a S.Pietroburgo: è stato bellissimo.

La città (almeno il centro storico) mi ha davvero sorpreso in quanto a patrimonio culturale e artistico. Potrei fare una lunga lista delle cose che mi sono piaciute, ma su tutte menzionerò ora l’Ermitage, con il suo enorme numero di capolavori, il palazzo di Caterina, con la meravigliosa Sala d’Ambra, e la cena russa, con simpatici rappresentanti del folklore locale.

Ah, dimenticavo, il cibo. Non propriamente mediterraneo, ma senz’altro meglio della qualità media dei ristoranti finlandesi e notevolmente più economico.

Un consiglio per tutti: andateci!
